Kern River & Kernville - Special Event Location

Bud's Grove, on the Kern River
Birthdays, Weddings, Anniversary parties and much more!
Dedicated to the memory of a very important member of the MRA family, Bud's Grove is a very special, unique place here in Kernville. The area is canopied by a grove of native Cottonwood trees which double as an umbrella by day, and is adorned with twinkle lights for night time enjoyment. Listen to the river rushing by or any one of our four hundred bird species singing, creating a symphony of nature.

Situated along the banks of the Kern River our campground facility serves as a wonderful wedding, reception or party venue. While our primary purpose is rafting, we get asked again and again to rent out our facilities for all kinds of parties. Perfect months for outdoor events include the sometimes persnickety April, early- May, September, October and November. Evening events can be cool as we are right along the banks of the Kern River.

Located in Kernville, CA just one hour east of Bakersfield, Mountain & River Adventures Campground is conveniently located in Kern County and very close to San Bernardino and Los Angeles counties, which makes us an ideal location for hosting your next outdoor event.

Location scouts often seek out our beautiful grove and river access for commercials. We've had segments of television commercials filmed right here at Mountain & River Adventures Campground. In fact, Men's Vogue shot stills for a magazine spread, etc.

Bull Run Pavilion
Nature Talks, Outdoor Films, Outdoor Theater, Gathering Area
Our Kern River campground also hosts, Bull Run Pavillion, a proud work in progress. Ultimately we hope to see our outdoor amphitheater used for skits, plays, and outdoor concerts for the local community and visitors. And in the short term we rent out Bull Run Pavilion to our camping guests that want a location for a nature talk, a church sermon or a place to stage an outdoor film. Our amphitheater, set in real boulders collected from around our 15 acres, will seat about 200 people. Crank up the dial on our propane powered fire pit and you have the makings of a real outdoor event. Come and enjoy!

Leave No Trace
In our continuing effort to protect and preserve the natural ecology of the Kern River Valley, we ask that each of our camping guests bring their own mess kits (see below for description) while camping and dining with MRA.

Please check out the Leave No Trace web site for important information about being a good camper.

MRA Recycles
Caring for our forest, community and our environment are important concepts to all the staff at MRA.  We are in the process of establishing a company-wide policy on how much trash we create, in an attempt to reduce our footprint in our own community.

MRA is making strides to reduce our carbon footprint. We now have a company-wide recycling program that encompasses both our Kernville and Campground check-in centers and our 15-acre campground facility. Our Guide Managers have been the major backbone of this effort and deserve big "props" for making the MRA recycling effort so comprehensive within the MRA culture. Next time you visit, please observe and use the recycling station in front of both check-in centers, plus all of the blue recycling containers throughout the campground. Please help us in our efforts to recycle glass, aluminum cans and plastic bottles.

What can you do? Plan before you come.
MRA encourages each of our camping guests to help preserve our pristine environment by creating less trash in the first place.  When planning to go camping in the Sequoia National Forest, remember to pack items such as reusable/washable food containers and eating utensils. Use cloth towels instead of paper, and bring reusable water bottles.  Bring a personal mess kit which consists of non-disposable or reusable plates, bowls, a cup and utensils, available at sporting goods stores, or in your own kitchen.  We have a handy wash station near our restroom. These are just a few ways in which you can help to create less trash, save room in our landfills and leave behind something precious for future generations.  Thank you for being respectful of the Kern River Valley and the Sequoia National Forest!
