Recap of the Fat Tire Festival 2003

Yet again we were gifted with some of the best weather for the festival.

Mountain and River Adventures would like to thank all 142 attendees of the 2 & 4-day Fat Tire Festival for your financial and personal support. It is always nice to see the support of so many folks who return year after year.

A big “Thank You” to our sponsors. Your gifts and donations are the icing on the cake for this event. (See Sponsor page.)

And I personally want to thank the guides and staff for their dedication to the sport and to the event. Together we made the festival a real success and hopefully memorable for all.

The dusty rutty trails claimed only two victims and those being guides, Glen took five stitches to the forehead on the Alta Sierra Ride and Shawn bruised more than his ego on a Kern Canyon Ride. Thanks to the rest of you for keeping the rubber to the dirt.
The competitive events yielded new winners this year with some very creative styles in the bike rodeo. The costume party was side-splitting torture. So many great costumes to go with the always two thumbs up band “Mental Buru”. Be sure to view the Rodeo and Halloween Party pictures on our web site.

Planning for next year already. There will be new events for Friday and Saturday afternoons. In an effort to gain more participation we’ll offer a more “user friendly” venue. Time schedules are being evaluated and new trails are being looked at. Your ideas and suggestions are always welcomed. Email us at mtnriver@mtnriver.com

On a serious note: It is your support that makes this event not only a success, but an event that happens at all. This festival supports many people and institutions in the Kern River Valley. It is through your continued support that this event will continue on in future years. Please let the fellow riders, known as poachers, who want to ride with your group during our trail rides, know that you are a supporter of the event. You are giving your hard earned dollars for them to ride on the trail with you that day. Encourage them to participate with the rest of the festival and support our worthy cause, Good Friends, Good Fun with a Love for Biking.

Mountain and River Adventures is a year round adventure company. Be sure to visit us for the winter, spring and summer fun as well as next year’s Fat Tire Festival, slated for October 21-24, 2004.
