Mountain & River Adventures (MRA) is an equal opportunity employer and hires approximately 60-70 seasonal employees during each rafting season.  These positions are typically seasonal, yet full-time.  We also have several positions that are full-time, year round. 

If you are a person that enjoys working with people and being active in the outdoors, we may have the ideal outdoor recreation job for you.  Many of our staff have previous experience as river guides on the Kern River or other rivers, or have been a rock climbing or mountain biking guide elsewhere in Southern California.  MRA is located about one hour east of Bakersfield, CA in Kern County and just three hours northeast of Los Angeles, thus making us a perfect spot for folks who want to work part-time, but happen to live in L.A., Bakersfield, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, or other areas in central and southern California.  And we also attract student interns that are currently majoring in Recreation and Park Management, Recreation & Leisure, and those seeking jobs in outdoor education.

Whitewater Raft Guides

MRA is looking for seasonal guides with or without previous experience.  Experienced guides must have outstanding customer service skills combined with knowledge of the area including local history, flora, and fauna (or willingness to learn if you are new to the area).  First aid/CPR certification is a must; and wilderness first aid training is desired.  If you are interested in becoming a Class I-III or Class IV-V whitewater raft guide and do not have the experience, check out our Guide School.

Mountain Bike Guides

MRA is looking for seasonal guides who have experience with guiding mountain bike trips and providing instruction. Outstanding customer service skills combined with knowledge of the area including local history, flora and fauna are preferred.  First aid/CPR certification is required.  Ability to guide multiple outdoor activities is preferred.  For more information about our company and this position, contact our Guide Manager at mtnriver@mtnriver.com.

Rock Climbing Guides

Camp Counselors

MRA is looking for seasonal camp counselors who have experience with any of the following outdoor activities; whitewater rafting mountain biking, rock climbing, and whitewater kayaking. Camp experience is a plus.  Knowledge of camp games, songs and story-telling are essential.  Counselors are responsible for becoming educated on local history, flora and fauna. Bus/Van Drivers

MRA is looking for seasonal Class B drivers with passenger and airbrake endorsements or Class A license. Applicants must have an excellent driving record and customer service skills.  Driver duties include driving our customers to and from adventures, assisting the guides with loading and unloading of gear, vehicle inspections, reports and other duties as required.  For more information about our company and this position, contact our Guide Manager at mtnriver@mtnriver.com.

Cook/Food Preparation

MRA is looking for a motivated individual to run our catering program. We offer meals with many of our rafting, biking, climbing trips and provide catering for large groups at our campground (10-200 people). Photographer/Printer

MRA is looking for a customer service oriented individual with outdoor/action photography experience. Campground Maintenance Worker
