Our Story …

Mountain & River Adventures opened its doors in April of 1989.  At this time John Stallone undertook full responsibility for the planning, growth and development of the entire business.  Working in each aspect of the operation including marketing, managing, supervising, purchasing, budget, maintenance, instructor, and guide.  John quickly assembled a strong management team to carefully guide the expansion and success of this diverse outdoor enterprise.  

Since 1989, Mountain & River Adventures has held a Special Use Permit for outfitting and guiding on the Sequoia National Forest.  Our current permit includes the following activities: mountain biking, hiking, rock climbing, lake kayaking, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.  Mountain & River Adventures has served as a responsible Permittee and has worked to develop a cooperative partnership with each of the Forest Service personnel who have assisted me with my offerings. 

Because several of these activities had never been authorized under a permit prior to Mountain & River Adventures, it required additional effort on both the company and the Forest’s part to establish routes, guidelines, seasons of use, and Operating Plans.  Mountain & River Adventures had to make several presentations to the Recreation Managers group to provide information, maps, proposals, and to exchange ideas. Although this took considerable time and effort for both parties, the result has been a sentiment of trust and respect.  Through the years of developing safe and enjoyable activities, MRA has provided unique and outstanding outdoor opportunities for the public to enjoy and experience the Sequoia National Forest and the Kern River Valley.

Through our services on public lands, diverse people become more aware and connected to themselves, each other, and nature. Through providing education and adventure services that help people experience themselves fully in nature, memories and new skills become tools which are depended and reflected on to make healthy decisions in day-to-day lives. Our communities respect and care for the outdoors, and in turn, the natural environment sustains us all for generations to come.
